Omaha City, NE- Western Exchange Fire & Marine Insurance Co. $1-$2-$3-$5 Nov. 2, 1857 Owen 22-7-8-9-10 Uncut Sheet About Uncirculated.
The only handling is mostly in the bottom selvage. These notes have the "deposited by the Bishop Hill Colony" clause. Olof Johnson of Galva, Illinois bought this bank for $9,500 when the original bank failed in September, 1857. Johnson was a member and officer of the Bishop Hill Colony. This makes these notes actually an Illinois issue. Increasing dissension prior to its disbanding in 1861 led the BHC to be called the "Bishop Hell Colony" by many and that included the colonists themselves.
