Hannibal, MO- City of Hannibal $3 1872 Proof PCGS About New 53.
The provenance of this two sided proof, printed on cardstock, extends back to the archives of Western Bank Note Company. It features attractive vignettes of a buffalo hunt, a locomotive, and a young girl on the face and an ornate green back that looks quite federal-like. Interestingly, the WBNC imprint has been intentionally removed from the lower frameline with the reason for this being unknown. PCGS notes some small stains as well as the usual POCs in the signature lines. We sold a similar, slightly higher condition example for $2,115 as part of our 2016 Long Beach Currency Signature Auction and would expect this example to be in the same general price vicinity.
