Jackson, MS- State of Mississippi Bond $500 Mar. 26, 1861 Cr. 61A PMG Very Fine 30.
A vignette of a soldier standing guard adorns this rare bond that was issued almost four months before the Battle of First Manassas. This is only the second example to cross our auction block. Our first offering was a raw VF-XF from the advanced William A. "Bill" Bond Collection. It realized $4,887 in May, 2007. Here is your second chance to add a Cr. 61A to your collection after waiting patiently for nearly 14 years. Only 190 of this number were issued, and it has earned Criswell's highest rarity rating of R11, 2 - 4 known. Our experience falls right in line with Criswell's statistics. The bond shows some toning which should be expected, and the annotations are only pencil writings on the back, another common occurrence.
