Jackson, MS- Mississippi Union Bank $50 Apr. 1, 1839
A tougher bank that was only open from 1837-40, most of its notes are listed in Haxby as SENC, Surviving Example Not Confirmed. This is an evenly circulated $50 that has a penned endorsement on the back. Not surprisingly given the vignettes and artistry, this attractive note was the product of prolific engraving firm Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New York. They included a number of very detailed vignettes representing classical mythology on the notes they produced. This lovely $50 is Very Fine, with areas of staining observed primarily on the back due to a prior mounting.
