Commercial Bank of Columbus $10 Post Note

Columbus, MS - Commercial Bank of Columbus $10 Post Note January 2, 1837 MS-50 G24 SENC, Kraus 3386d, Leggett-UNL. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.
A very scarce bank, and this post note is printed from well-engraved plates by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch. The denomination was not known to Leggett, but was listed later in Haxby as SENC and Kraus. The design type is not plated in Haxby, which is significant. It is a written "ninety days" post note and also has the written [at] "the Planters & Merchants Bank of Mobile on demand" clause. An early train passes a riverboat heading up river. Identical ends show "10" on finely engraved lathe work. Noted with "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." This is listed as a Rarity-7 note. An extremely difficult series and note to obtain.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
