Taylors Falls, MN- Chisago County Bank $1 18__ as G2 Hewitt B840-D1 Proof PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
The bank was first organized in 1858 and began operation in 1859. The bank, whose circulation was backed only by railroad bonds, failed on July 9, 1859. Its notes were subsequently redeemed by the auditor at 19.25¢ on the dollar. The $1 design features a vignette of a farm family taking a lunch break at left and a female portrait at right. The note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Notes from this bank were not represented in the miniscule Minnesota section of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, but Haxby and Hewitt were both aware of $1 proofs. The population of surviving proofs is probably in the neighborhood of three or four notes.

    Estimate: $600 - $900.
