St. Paul, MN- Ogden, Merrill & Greer Crockery Ad Note
Nominally a $3 denomination, this ad note was designed to resemble the face of a $5 1861 Demand note and the back of an 1863 $10 Legal Tender note. The key word here is "resemble." The objective was to catch people's attention long enough to get across the sales message carried on the note. The issuer of this note sold crockery, glassware, cutlery, and other household goods. The note offered a five percent discount on any cash purchase of $3 or more. PCGS grades this note Very Choice New 64PPQ. It is getting more difficult to find these advertising notes in this state of preservation. This Minnesota issuer is unlisted in both Hewitt's Minnesota catalog and Vlack's catalog of advertising notes.
