    St. Paul, MN- Dayton Bank $1
    An attractive Choice Crisp Uncirculated remainder with a number of appealing vignettes. Minnesota is a tough state for Obsoletes. The central portrait on this $1 depicts Lyman Dayton, a successful entrepreneur who relocated to Minnesota shortly before the mass immigration that took place. Dayton acquired several thousand acres of land east of St. Paul, at least partially by buying soldiers' land warrants from men who had served during the Mexican War, and became a well known real estate dealer and was also known as a banker. His attempt to issue his own currency in three different denominations during 1856-57 as The Dayton Bank was not authorized by the state of Minnesota and quickly failed.
