St. Paul, MN- Bank of the State of Minnesota $2 18__ G4a Hewitt B740-D2-1 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank was organized in 1858 but failed in 1859, when its parent company, Sewell, Ferris & Co. in New York failed in October of that same year. This beautiful red and black note has a large vignette of two putti playing around two large silver dollar coins. There is an overall red tint and a large red and white TWO protector. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. Hewitt's census indicates a total of two Proofs known for this denomination.
