Michigan Centre, MI- Bank of Michigan Centre $2 18__ as G4 Lee MIC-1-2 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
Like so many Michigan banks of the era, this concern opened in 1837 and failed the following year. The note features a center vignette of a farmer sowing seed flanked by others depicting a farmer with a work horse at left and an early passenger train at right. A small vignette of a dog lying by a safe and key, representing Fidelity, appears at bottom center. The note is on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. This bank was not represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, and this note may be part of the sheet illustrated on page 310 of the Lee catalog. In any case, we do not believe that there are more than two or three surviving Proofs of this design.
