Grand Rapids, MI- Grand River Bank $1 18__ as G2 as Lee GRA-7-2 Proof PMG Choice About Unc 58.
The bank was in operation for a short period of time between 1837 and 1839. The $1 design incorporates a vignette of the reverse of an early silver dollar, a center vignette of Liberty and a Native American warrior seated by a shield displaying a 1, and a vignette of an allegorical figure holding a large anchor, standing in a niche at right. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. This bank was not represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. Only a small handful of examples are presently known to us.
