Detroit, MI- Michigan Insurance Company $1; $2; $5 July 1, 18__ Remainders G34a; G38a; G44a Choice About Uncirculated or Better.
These note designs were altered by adding location for state officials to countersign the notes on the back (a seldom seen location for these signatures) since these notes were intended for use when the bank was operating as a free bank, beginning circa 1857. The $1 note bears the signature of the Deputy State Treasurer and is numbered and hammer cancelled, suggesting that the note was still in inventory when the bank stopped issuing notes. The two higher denominations have the Register as the indicated state official countersigning the notes. The $2 has a tiny stain in the lower right margin. (Total: 3 notes)
