Extremely Rare Pynchon Bank Issued Note

    Springfield, MA - Pynchon Bank $1 June 1, 1860 MA-1185 G2b SENC. PCGS Fine 12.
This is one of only two issued Pynchon Bank notes we have seen. Danforth, Wright & Co. engraved the primary plate, and proofs are known of that style. This has an added "ABC" monogram and was used for this issued note with a color protector. A train spewing black smoke travels west at the top; the edge of the vignette just slightly encroaches on a large, red "1" protector. Numeric counters are at lower left and upper right corners. At lower right, in an oval, is a portrait of a blacksmith with a sledgehammer on his shoulder. There is some faint tone to the paper, but uniformly, and the note is solid and attractive. An important Springfield issued note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
