    Description

    Pittsfield, MA - Pittsfield Bank $10 Raised from $1 June 10, 1861 MA-990 R16 UNL. PCGS Fine 15.
Well performed, crafty workmanship raised this $10 from a genuine $1 note. The host note was beautifully printed by the American Bank Note Co. New York with a large green guilloche at the bottom and a green counter surround. The farmer at top left pumps water into a trough for thirsty animals. The Massachusetts state seal is to the right. At lower right is a male portrait. The raised "10" counters added and TEN DOLLARS over the color are very deceptive. A very vibrant note and perhaps a unique example.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
