    Edgartown, MA - Martha's Vineyard Bank $5 Oct. 20, 1860 Altered Note MA-560 A30. PCGS Very Fine 25.
This is an altered note from the Pioneer Association, Lafayette, Indiana. However, it is still a very significant as it is from an extremely rare location for any Obsolete note. We have seen only a few altered bills from the island community, and this is the finest we have observed. The red tinted Bald, Cousland imprint plate design has drovers at upper left and a haying scene at lower right. Well framed and bold. We have observed only two confirmed genuine notes from the bank. There is a $1 issued note plated in the Whitman Encyclopedia. There is also a $5 Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson tinted note, which was once part of the Richard Ulbrich collection, listed and not illustrated. It has traded hands privately twice in the last two decades, never appearing at public auction. This altered type catalogs for $750 in Very Fine in the Whitman Encyclopedia. However, it is very rarely offered. A standout note from this elite title.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
