Description

Boston, MA - Massachusetts Bank $5 Raised from $1 June 4, 1862 MA-270 R5 SENC. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.
The Newman Collection is laden with raised notes, and many are unique. The bank left itself vulnerable with this series' simplicity and uniformity of layout. This would have passed easily. The Massachusetts seal is in the center, under the arced title, and flanked by red "5" numerals on this note raised from a $1 denomination. "Hole Punch Cancelled," with "Mounting Remnants on Back; Small Edge Tears; Pinholes," as noted by PCGS. This was turned in to the bank, and they cancelled it to keep as an example for comparison.
