Rare Battle of Bunker Hill Vignette

    Boston, MA - Freeman's Bank $1 18__ MA-195 G4. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent.
This is a great Boston title and a uniquely styled design. The series was engraved and printed by the New England Bank Note Co., like most notes from the title in this period. Notes from the bank are rare, and it is interesting that the title on their engraved notes was sometimes inconsistently punctuated. The large vignette at left shows The Battle of Bunker Hill, with General Warren mortally wounded. This version of the battle scene only appears on this note. Textual counters are at top left and bottom right corners. Numeric counters are at lower left and upper right corners. The vignette in the center of the left and panel shows a clipper ship on a stormy sea. At center right, a woman is busy with needlework. Fully issued, but the penned details are faint or indistinct. Noted with a "Small Internal Tear near Center." Very boldly printed with the battle details still sharp. There are only a few examples known of this key historical vignette type.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
