    Description

Port Deposit, MD- Susquehanna Bridge & Bank Company $1000 Post Note 18__ as G40 Shank 102.12.43 P PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Originally a bridge company, the firm's charter was amended in 1815 to allow banking privileges. The name was changed to the Susquehanna Bridge & Bank Company. The enterprise ceased operating under this name in 1834 when the title was simplified to the Susquehanna Bank. This $1000 Post Note features a profile female portrait in a round frame flanked by end panels containing Justice at left and Music, or perhaps The Arts, at right. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs, although they have not punched all the way through, in the signature lines. Rather miraculously, two corners of the card have been severed or torn off but the India paper is completely undamaged. We are aware of two or possibly three examples at present.
