Cumberland, MD - The Allegany County Bank $5 Feb. 13, 1861
A fully signed and issued note that is not particularly rare but which is always popular due to the orange tinted paper and striking vignettes. The bank closed in 1864 before the Civil War was over. A charming town way up in the upper northwestern corner of Western Maryland before going into Pennsylvania. A broadly margined and wonderfully centered PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ which is one of the nicest examples we have sold in quite a while. A year ago we sold a PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ example for $158.63.
