Baltimore, MD- American Bank $2 Dec. 1, 1863 G4a Shank 5.2.2 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
The American Bank was an on and off again affair. It opened in 1856, failed in 1858, and then was revived in the early 1860s only to close for good around 1863. While not terribly rare, notes from this issuer's second series are always popular because of their artistry. With a large plowing vignette and an oval portrait of Henry Clay offset by a dark green tint, this National Bank Note Co. printed note will not disappoint.
