Very Choice Parish of Caddo $1 Note

Shreveport, LA - Parish of Caddo $1 December 1, 1862. PCGS Very Fine 20.
Caddo is one of the harder to obtain Parishes, and this is a high-grade example. Printed on light brown paper without imprint. The denomination is across the center of the note with Gothic title above and obligation underneath. End cartouches show the dues statement at left and the denomination at right. The treasurer red pen endorsement is perpendicular at the right. This is a very choice example. It is much superior to the Charlton Meyer collection note (his home Parish) sold in the Smythe November 1996 St. Louis PCDA Sale #156 for $352 in "Very Good." (The late Charlton Meyer was an esteemed local collector and student of Louisiana Obsolete currency for decades.) A perfect example for a Parish note type set as this is an excellent representative with few rivals.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
