    Description

Parish of St. Charles (Hahnville), LA- Parish of St. Charles $1 Apr. 7, 1862 PCGS Choice New 63.
The Parish of St. Charles purchased sheets of unissued Bank of Commerce notes and printed parish notes on the backs. Sheets of the completed, but unissued, parish notes were stolen from the courthouse in 1863 and falsely filled in. These were, of course, repudiated. The deep blue backs of the Bank of Commerce host notes make the parish note design somewhat difficult to make out. A great note with a great story. As pretty as the day it was (illegally) issued.
