New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Rail Road Company $2 Nov. 16, 1861
This note was printed on the backs of portions of notes from Port Gibson, Mississippi. The antebellum goal of this railroad was to connect the Gulf Coast with the Midwest. When the Civil War started, its tracks ran from New Orleans to Canton, Mississippi. The task of rebuilding the railroad after the war fell upon the shoulders of former Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard, who became its president. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
