    New Orleans, LA- S.B. Holt & Co. 50¢ Mar. 29, 1862
Between the beginning of the Civil War and its fall in April, 1862, New Orleans saw coinage disappear and be replaced by an avalanche of private scrip issues. Your cataloger is aware of over 125 different issuers in the city alone. So far, efforts to discover who S.B. Holt was, what he did, and where he was located in the city have been unsuccessful. This note grades Fine-Very Fine but has a large internal gash. It appears, however, that at least some of the paper displaced is still present, having been folded over.
