    Description

New Orleans, LA- Patterson Iron Works 25¢ Mar. 1862
A nice example for the grade of PCGS Very Fine 25. It is uniface and printed in green and black ink on brown paper. Both companies named on this note (Jackson & Co. being the other) were involved in the construction of the CSS Mississippi, a Confederate ironclad designed to protect the lower Mississippi River. The uncompleted ship was hurriedly launched on April 19, 1862 with the approach of Union naval forces and destroyed to avoid capture by the enemy on April 25, 1862.
