    Description

New Orleans, LA- Mechanics & Traders Bank $1 Dec. 26, 1873
A scarce Reconstruction-era certificate of deposit that is not listed in Haxby. That reference does mention that $1, $2, and $3 CD's were issued in the 1870's by the bank. We have auctioned just a few of these over the years. In fact this remainder is the first $1 with a date to cross our desk. The M&T was in operation from 1833 to circa 1879. Fine+, small tear at right.
