    New Orleans, LA- J.J. McKeever $1 Dec. 26, 1861
Your cataloger was curious about McKeever's profession and found the answer simply by turning over the note. He was apparently involved in the express business as the note is printed on the back of an unissued stock certificate that clearly shows his last name and "Express Company." In fact, the 1861 New Orleans City Directory lists him as an agent for Adams Express Co. As a bonus, the train vignette on the certificate is the inspiration for the train vignette on CSA T-39 and T-40 $100 Treasury Notes. The central vignette on the face of the note has a pelican feeding her young. PCGS grades this note Apparent Very Fine 20 due to some light stains, primarily in the bottom margin.
