    Extremely Rare Insurance Bank Proof

New Orleans, LA - Insurance Bank of W.B. Partee & Co. $1 July 1, 1851. Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58 Apparent.
An extremely rare India paper proof from this Insurance Bank and part of a nearly complete denomination set discovered in the Louisiana Newman collection Obsolete albums. This $1 proof is splendidly engraved by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York & N.O. and printed on India paper only. The smaller size and obligation leads most to classify this as scrip, but the title is intriguing and the date of issue falls well into the New Orleans bank issuing heyday. At the top, seated Plenty grasps and protects an intricate numeral "1" counter. Lower left, a sea nymph lifts her had above the sea in a finely framed vignette. Lightly handled only and noted as having a "Small Edge Tear at Left" by PCGS. Leftover notes from this issuer were later reused for printing by the State of Louisiana.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
