New Orleans, LA- Hall & Briscoe $2 Feb. 3, 1862
Hall & Briscoe were importers and dealers in wine and liquors. The rather unique central vignette depicts their different product lines. Although many merchants participated in the city's scrip redemption plan after the city fell in April, 1862, this partnership was not one of them, suggesting that the business either redeemed its notes directly (as required by the Union military governor) or repudiated them. This note with a bright yellow TWO protector grades Very Good with two stamp hinge remnants and a number of body and margin splits and holes, due in part to the fragile paper. Quite scarce.
