New Orleans, LA- City of New Orleans, State of Louisiana $500 Mar. 20, 1862 Serial Number 1 Bond
This serial number 1 bond was issued roughly a month before Union naval forces under the command of Captain David G. Farragut captured New Orleans. The bond has retained its full complement of twelve coupons probably because the city Confederate government was superseded by the administration of Union General Benjamin Butler. This is the first time for us to offer this denomination from this bond issue and it is also only the second example of any denomination from the March 20, 1862 issue that we have had the pleasure of auctioning. The apparent grade is for being damaged and tape repairs. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20.
