    Description

New Orleans, LA- City of New Orleans 50¢ May 6, 1862
This scarce municipal issue was produced less than two weeks after federal naval forces under the command of Admiral David Farragut swept aside Confederate defenses and captured the city of New Orleans. New Orleans was the largest city in the Confederacy and the key to control of the Mississippi Valley. On the back is a penned annotation reading "Hard Currency," which this note certainly was not. Nice PCGS Very Fine 35PPQ.
