    Description

New Orleans, LA- City of New Orleans $1 May 6, 1862
Part of an issue made by the City days after it fell to Union forces, the purpose of notes like this $1 was to redeem scrip of the city's merchants that had been put into circulation before the city was overrun. These city notes were, in turn, retired in October, 1862 with yet another issue of city scrip. The May 6, 1862 city notes are all very rare, with the vast majority redeemed. This $1, printed by Douglas, grades PCGS Very Fine 25.
