New Orleans, LA- City of New Orleans $1 May 6, 1862 PCGS Very Fine 20.
The City of New Orleans issued a series of notes on May 6, 1862 as part of a program to retire the unruly mass of private scrip issues that had plagued the city. Issuers were to make deposits with the city which, in turn, redeemed their scrip with city notes. These notes are extremely rare as most were redeemed. Printed by Douglas, this note features a steamboat and a red ONE - ONE DOLLAR - ONE protector. Very Fine is top notch condition for this series which usually is seen in grades closer to Good or Very Good. A rare and historic note.
