New Orleans, LA- Bank of Orleans $50 18__ G44 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank was organized before 1820 and remained in business until about 1849 when it closed its doors. The $50 design incorporates two vignettes; one of Commerce and Agriculture flanking a shield bearing a 50 and one of Justice standing. This Fairman, Draper, Underwood & Co. product is listed as NDA (no description available) in Haxby and was not part of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. The last public auction appearance that we can find was when this note sold in 2007. We imagine that not more than 2 or 3 survivors of this design still exist. This note may well be unique or nearly so as the only two known public auction appearances since 2003 have been made by this exact note.
