New Orleans, LA- Bank of Louisiana $50 May 22, 1862
This well circulated $50 with a blue "FIFTY" overprint is the variety featuring a central vignette of a seated maid holding a document. Very Good, with minor nicks. A "FORCED ISSUE" rubber-stamped notation in blue ink is seen vertically to the right of the vignette. We rarely encounter this denomination from the bank. The Bank of Louisiana was in operation from 1824 until it became the Louisiana National Bank of New Orleans, charter number 1626, on December 30, 1865. The bank was liquidated on October 2, 1905.
