    Patriotic Banner "Davis & Stephens"

New Iberia, LA- Corporation of New Iberia 50¢ 1862 Remainder PMG Fine 12.
A rare and seldom seen municipal issue, this 50¢ note is enhanced by a neat detail added to the ship vignette - a huge banner reading "Davis & Stephens." Your cataloger is convinced that this can only refer to CSA President Jefferson Davis and Vice President Alexander Stephens. While PMG calls this a remainder, we respectfully disagree as there is a signature, date and serial numbers present. The Treasurer's signature has either faded or the note was issued without it being applied. A really neat note for any Civil War or Louisiana collection.
