    Napoleonville, LA- E. O. Melancon 50¢ Feb. 4, 1862 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25.
Some sources indicate that Melancon was Postmaster of Napoleonville during the 1850s but, while there seems to be no shortage of Melancons, the trail for who E.O. Melancon was and what he did has grown cold. Further research by the new owner will undoubtedly solve this mystery. The note is typical of Louisiana scrip issued before the fall of New Orleans in late April, 1862. This is an evenly circulated and problem free example.
