Homer, LA- Parish of Claiborne $1 Feb. 1, 1864
A very rare note from this very scarce northern Louisiana parish, which took its name from William C.C. Claiborne, the first governor of Louisiana. We sold an identically graded $10 note from here with a similar design dated 1862 for $1,840 in our 2010 Memphis auction, and a lower grade $1 of an earlier design back in 2008, but this is the only example we've seen of any note from this parish bearing an 1864 date. PMG Very Fine 20, printed on brown paper.
