    Mail Company Issue

Franklin, LA- Price & Giddings at New Orleans & Texas Overland Mail Co. / C.S. Kelly, Ticket Agent $1 Jan. 1862 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25.
J.B. Price was a mail contractor living in the vicinity of Franklin, LA according to the 1860 Federal Census and was somehow connected to the New Orleans & Texas Overland Mail Co. in New Orleans. Notes are known signed by both J.B. Price & Co. as well as by Price & Giddings, a later partnership. The attractive note is colorfully printed on ornately watermarked paper in red and green with a train vignette and a red ONE - 1 protector. PCGS notes small edge tears which really affect nothing on this historic and rare example. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection.
