Description

Baton Rouge, LA- State of Louisiana $2 Feb. 24, 1862 Cr. 2 Two Examples Very Fine.
Leftover sheets from the Commercial & Agricultural Bank of Texas (Columbia) were used to print this issue of Louisiana state notes in early 1862. Chartered originally by the government of Mexico in 1835. Bureaucratic wrangling led to the bank never opening in Columbia (it finally did open in Galveston in 1848, using different design notes). The Louisiana notes depict Commerce seated above a small vignette of the Louisiana coat of arms (a brown pelican feeding her young with her own blood). (Total: 2 notes)
