    Hughes Plate Note

Lexington, KY- Northern Bank of Kentucky, Richmond Branch $1 18__ G286 Hughes 433 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Chartered in 1835, the bank remained in operation (ultimately with six branches) in one form or another until 1898, when its stockholders voted to voluntarily liquidate the bank. This note, payable at the Richmond branch, has portraits of Clay and Washington as well as an unidentified female, along with a vignette of a seated allegorical female. It is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. This design was not in the ABNCo Archives holdings and has seldom been seen in public auction appearances, certainly in the last decade. A rare and attractive example.
