    Description

Lexington, KY- Northern Bank of Kentucky $5 18__ G344 Hughes 444 Proof PMG Uncirculated 62.
The bank was chartered in 1835 and operated, eventually with six branches, until 1889 when the stockholders voted to voluntarily liquidate the institution. This note features oval portraits of Clay and Washington flanking a seated maiden holding a scroll inscribed with the bank's name. The note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines, with PMG noting a small repair whose nature and location is unclear. A rarely seen proof that was not represented in the ABNCo Archives holdings.
From the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection
