Lyons City, IA - Treasurer of Lyons City $5 Jan. 3, 1859 Oakes 89-3
The exact reason for this issue is unknown although it was made about the time that several cities were competing to be the location for a railroad that would either bring prosperity or leave the losing town high and dry. The vignette is very unusual, depicting the harvest of hops. The note features large red "FIVE" and "5" protectors. PMG has graded this sharply inked example About Uncirculated 50 Net with some evidence of a previous mounting on the back.
