Twenty Cents "Good for Ferriage" Scrip
Keokuk, IA - Keokuk & Hamilton Ferry & Manufacturing Co. 20 Cents 1858 Oakes 82-2. Remainder. PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent.A rare and unusual, odd denomination scrip that was noted as "Good for Ferriage" in the payable obligations at the right end. Lithographed at Hosford & Co., New-York and printed in blue. An eagle is sandwiched between the upper and lower parts of the bank title. At upper right, a Native American hunter beckons upward. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" and with "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." The Rarity-6 listing in Oakes appears understated. This is first 20 cents type we have cataloged, and its companion 30 cents note in Newman Part VII realized $1,175 in identical grade.
