    Description

Keokuk, IA - City of Keokuk $1 Oct. 1, 1857 Oakes 80-1. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent.
A well-engraved and rare series of notes printed from Danforth, Wright & Co, plates. The Rarity-6 rating (6-10 known) by Oakes appears accurate based on appearance and auction records available. The style and layout are lovely. At the upper left is long panoramic view of steamboats along the Mississippi, one of the most impressive vignettes from this imprint. At the lower right is a female portrait. There are two red protectors, a ONE along the bottom center and a large numeral "1." This example has seen circulation, and the noted "Edge and Internal Splits and Tears" are typical for a note such as this. The vignette clarity is still excellent.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
