    Description

    Davenport, IA- Burrows & Prettyman $3 Sept. 28, 1859 Oakes 32-2
Originally involved in the dry goods business as well as several other ventures, the partnership decided to give banking a whirl in 1856. Timing is everything, and the Panic of 1857 eventually forced Burrows to sell his home in order to redeem the remaining circulation. This accounts for the scarcity of these notes today. We have only sold two examples of this note design in our previous auctions, with one being the first appearance of this note. PCGS Fine 12 with small rust stains and a missing corner tip noted. The real question to ask is, of course, when might you find another?
