    Description

Council Bluffs, IA- Banking House of Baldwin & Dodge $2 185__ Remainder Oakes 27-2 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The banking and land agency was formed by John T. Baldwin and G.M. Dodge in January 1856. Within a few years, their brothers ended up assuming and running the business. These notes circulated when small bills and silver had all but disappeared from the area in the late 1850s. The situation was relieved when the State Bank of Iowa came into existence in 1859. This attractive remainder has a red-brown overall tint and a orange and white TWO protector as well as several attractive vignettes including one titled Finding the Red Ear.
