    Description

Council Bluffs, IA- Banking House of Baldwin & Dodge $1
The banking and land agency was formed by John T. Baldwin and G.M. Dodge in Jan. 1856. Their brothers ended up assuming and running the business within a few years. These notes circulated when small bills and silver had all but disappeared from the area in the late 1850s. The situation was relieved when the State Bank of Iowa came into existence in 1859. According to Oakes, the notes were printed by Ed. Mendel, Chicago. This attractive remainder has a reddish-brown netting design and several attractive vignettes including one of a train. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
