    Description

Richmond, IN-State Bank of Indiana $20 Nov. 20, 1848 Counterfeit
An attractive mid-grade example of this counterfeit and the first example of this denomination that we have ever handled. It shows even wear and bold signatures. The State Bank of Indiana was one of the most prominent and successful banks in the country between 1834 and 1857, when it ceased active business, anticipating the expiration of its charter in 1859. This success quickly attracted all manner of counterfeiters and producers of spurious paper money. PCGS Very Fine 25.
