Michigan City, IN- Lyman Blair 20¢ July 15, 1862 Wolka 495-3
Lyman Blair was the brother of C.B. Blair who was actively involved with a number of banks. Lyman, however, stuck to the less glamorous business of being a grain and fish dealer. These notes were used to make change for day-to-day business transactions after coins disappeared during the Civil War. This example grades Fine or a bit better with a few very light small stains. The 1978 SPMC state catalog covering the state of Indiana utilized this specimen as the plate note. This is our first offering of any kind from this rare northern Indiana issuer.
